Great story, Emma! I think I like the short one a little better, partly just because I can see you. But it's also a little more direct, although the longer one has some nice touches, like the yoga and your fear of undiagnosable diseases and the concern about children in the waiting room.
I’m so honored that you watched/listened to both versions!! I’m really glad I had the constraints of the shorter time limit, not because I think it’s perfect but because I think it’s ideal as a second draft, for the reason you said. Draft 3 I would (or will) work from the draft 1 script and add in the fear of being gaslit throughline (aka the yoga detail) as well as the medical context with the kids and the post-herpetic neuralgia thing because a) it’s interesting to me b) it raises the stakes c) after COVID I think ppl are better aware of how viruses can longterm destroy you. I know a few science storytelling shows so I might prepare this for that venue so I can keep the short draft but add details about medical stuff to build up draft 3. Thanks for being here, Joe! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 the greatest supporter of the arts and letters!
Thank you so much for listening to/reading the long version. That salon has been such a gift to me! You can probably hear how supportive and engaged the audience is. 🙏🏻💝
What was notable about this illness is that prior to it I had no awareness that this was a fear of mine. But the minute I had an invisible but painful malady —- I saw how fragile it all is. I’m so glad you had/have a good doctor.
I of course once again love all foods. Every single one.
My pleasure, Emma, and of course I did! I never miss a vaccine.

I hope you got your Shingrix vaccine.
Nice story, Emma! I hope you now are enjoying chicken salad and cinnamon rolls once again.
Also grateful that my doctor diagnosed my autoimmune on my first visit with symptoms. I know many people aren’t so fortunate.
