I’m not consciously eavesdropping, but this apartment is an intimate venue, so to hear is to listen. My roommate, Camille, paces the apartment yelling emphatically into the phone at her mother. She’s speaking Swiss German, as is her mother in a muffled, tinny voice a few pitches lower and slower than hers.
As someone who has watched you striving - and shining brilliantly - for close to 30 years, I'd say you have scaled more than a few high mountains, fearlessly facing challenges and just getting on with the work, reaching for that next summit. This piece reflects that with poignancy and honesty, respect. Brave you are, and strong.
Bravo, for hitting on exactly what creatives are always thinking. This is the best piece I’ve read in so long. Thank you, Emma! I would love to connect with you further sometime. You are inspiring. Is that possible?
(side note: I lived in the Swiss German part of Switzerland briefly during college. I like to imagine Camille sharing stories amidst the cowbell countryside as she, like all of us, walk through each season of our lives trying to make it the best we can).
I am moved by your honesty and reflection.
This piece stays with the subject revealing the writers feelings and longing. It’s honest, raw and moving. Well done!

This is great, Emma! Feels very honest and real, and good for you for your determination and commitment and successes whenever they happen!
