An App and a Poem
Something neat you should know: You can now read Emma Tattenbaum-Fine's Substack in the new Substack app for iPhone.
With the app, you’ll have a dedicated Inbox for my Substack and any others you subscribe to. New posts will never get lost in your email filters, or stuck in spam. Longer posts will never cut-off by your email app. Comments and rich media will all work seamlessly. Overall, it’s a big upgrade to the reading experience.
The Substack app is currently available for iOS. If you don’t have an Apple device, you can join the Android waitlist here.
And now, a poem from Trash Mermaid:
Tools
The day you learn ... that a thing you’ve been doing wrong with technology— you don’t have to do anymore?
An angel gets its wings.
And so it was when I said, Mom: Highlight it. Command C.
Now what, she said?
Command V.
Why “V” to paste?
What am I, Bill Gates? Don’t know. Just do it.
She does it. Deliberately placing her small fingers like she’s learning a new chord on the piano.
Look! You just copied and pasted without using the ... dropdown ... menu thing.
Oh, yeah. Look at that.
She sits back in muted wonder.
And when she goes to do it the slow way again, I stop her.
Highlight! I yell urgently, my arm flying out to shield her from oblivion.
She places one little pinky. A hair faster this time.
Now Command C!
Oh, yeah!
She places the chord again and a new chapter begins for us.
I’m raising my boomer. Giving her the tools she’ll need to be a better old person on the days
when I am not, and cannot be, right beside her. 🙏🏼💻🏆
